How Many Diapers Does a Newborn Need?
Newborns typically use 8–12 diapers a day in the first month, which adds up to roughly 250–350 a month.
How many of each size to buy
| Size | Weight | Per day | Rough total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Newborn (NB) | up to 5 kg | 10–12 | 2–3 large packs |
| Small | 3–8 kg | 8–10 | 4–6 large packs |
| Medium | 6–11 kg | 7–9 | 6–8 large packs |
Don’t stock up too heavily on NB size. Some babies, especially larger ones, outgrow it within two or three weeks.
Diapers as a feeding check
Wet and dirty diapers are one of the best signs that your baby is feeding well. After the first five days, look for 6 or more wet diapers and at least 3–4 yellow poops a day in breastfed babies. Talk to your doctor if your baby has fewer wet diapers or dark urine.
