10 Early Signs of Pregnancy
Some people notice pregnancy symptoms within a week or two of conception; others feel nothing until after a missed period. Here are the most common early signs.
- Missed period: the classic first sign.
- Light spotting (implantation bleeding) around 10–14 days after conception.
- Tender, swollen breasts.
- Tiredness, caused by rising progesterone.
- Nausea, with or without vomiting, often from weeks 4–6.
- Needing to pass urine more often.
- Food cravings or aversions, and a metallic taste.
- Mood swings.
- Mild cramps and bloating.
- Heightened sense of smell.
When to take a test
Home pregnancy tests are most accurate from the first day of a missed period. If the result is negative but your period still has not come, test again in a few days. Once positive, book an appointment with your doctor to confirm and start antenatal care.
