Who needs NB size
Most babies are born between 2.5 and 4 kg, so NB fits almost every newborn. NB diapers are smaller, softer and have a cut-out at the front for the umbilical cord. Bigger babies (over 4 kg at birth) may go straight to S.
How many NB diapers to buy
Newborns use 10 to 12 diapers a day, around 300 in the first month. Do not buy too many NB packs: many babies move to S within 3 to 4 weeks.
How to check the NB size fits
- The waistband sits just below the belly button and you can slide two fingers under it.
- The leg cuffs are pulled out, not tucked in, and leave no deep red marks.
- No leaks up the back or at the sides after a normal wear.
Leaks, red marks or tapes that barely reach the front mean it is time to move up a size.
NB diaper size: common questions
Can a newborn wear XXL diapers?
No. XXL is made for toddlers of 15 to 25 kg. A newborn needs NB size, which fits up to about 5 kg. A diaper that is too big will leak and rub.
How long do babies stay in NB diapers?
Usually 3 to 6 weeks, until they weigh about 4 to 5 kg.
Is NB the same as size 0?
Roughly, yes. NB in Indian sizing matches 'Newborn' or 'Size 0' in US and European sizing.
